powerful stakeholders to shape your projects at an early
stage. Not only does this make it more likely that they
will support you, their input can also improve the
quality of your project
Gaining support from powerful stakeholders can help
you to win more resources - this makes it more likely
that your projects will be
successful
By communicating with stakeholders early
and frequently, you can ensure that they fully
understand what you are doing and understand the
benefits of your project - this means they can support
you actively when necessary
You can anticipate what people’s reaction to your
project may be, and build into your plan the actions
that will win people’s support.6
This
workshop is a great set of resources for seasoned and new
project managers and anyone participating in or assisting
others deliver projects.
Our workshops have helped
hundreds of organizations manage projects more effectively
including the private sector, NGO's, landowner organizations,
ENGO's, conservation authorities, municipal and provincial
governments and federal agencies.
Project Managers spend an inordinate
amount of time communicating with the project team,
stakeholders, customers and sponsor. To do this effectively,
successful project managers must understand how communications
affects the project as a whole.
Communications
processes provide a critical link among people and information
that are necessary for successful communications.
This course will address concepts and
techniques that will immediately impact your ability to
communicate effectively.
A significant challenge
project managers face is to fashion a high performing team.
This course also provides an understanding of team forming
dynamics so that project managers can quickly move teams from
the forming stage to the performing stage.
Stakeholder Management
Stakeholder Management is an
important discipline that successful project managers use to
win support from others. It helps them ensure that their
projects succeed where others fail.
Stakeholders are a
person or organization (e.g., customer, sponsor, performing
organization or the public) that is actively involved in the
project, or whose interests may be positively or negatively
affected by the execution or completion of the project.
The actions the project manager takes
in the execution of a project will impact stakeholders who
have power and influence over the projects. These people could
be strong supporters of the project - or they could block
it.
This course will explore techniques used to;
identify who the project stakeholders are; work out their
power, influence and interest and develop a understanding of
the most important stakeholders needs, wants and
expectations.
Learning Objectives
1) Understand communications processes
2) Discover techniques for more effective
communications
3) Understand the 4 stages of a team ( Forming
, Storming Norming and Performing)
4) Understand stakeholder analysis
processes
5) Discover techniques for analyzing
stakeholder needs, wants and expectations
Workshop Approach
This workshop focuses on tools and
techniques to discover the project's stakeholders, identify
and clarify their expectations, and develop a plan to manage
these expectations.
Attention is paid to stakeholders'
spheres of influence, including their influences on each
other. Political, legal, and community influences will be
examined along with strategies to mitigate or enhance such
influences. Political and legal influences can include
existing legislation as well as future trends and directions.
Community influences could originate in the
geographical, business and social community where the project
is occurring, the professional/technical community that is
involved in implementing the project and using its results, as
well as other interested communities of people.
Case studies are used as learning
vehicles to develop an awareness of stakeholder expectations
and expectation management plans, and to tie stakeholder
requirements to the project's scope management, procurement
management, risk management, and resource management
plans.
It is highly recommended that the Project
Management Planning Essentials Workshop be completed before
taking the Stakeholder Analysis and Risk Management Workshop,
as the latter builds on the former.
